Terrain: Medium. Lanes and Bridleways with two hard Climbs

This Ride takes you around some of Pembrokeshires most beautiful undiscovered lanes and bridleways with the sea always close by. We nearly included this pleasant ride in our Book, ‘MOUNTAIN BIKING IN WEST WALES’ but space and print time ran out.

1.        Turn RIGHT out of the car park and descend down the hill.

2.        At the T-junction turn RIGHT.

3.        Ignore the road on the right, and then at Trefasser Crossroads by the phone box go STRAIGHT ON.

4.        You can now relax and pedal along, passing Velindre Farm on your left and Treissllt Farm on your right. Just after Treissllt Farm the lane drops steeply into the wooded valley. Ignore the lane to your left, and then cross over the Pont Fawr River Bridge.

5.        Just past the bridge turn RIGHT into a narrow lane before the hill. This is marked as a white lane, and is hard to see on the Map.  Maber Mawr Picnic spot

6.        Follow the lane until it comes to an end at the sea above Aber Mawr bay. Now dismount and wheel your bikes LEFT down the short section of footpath onto Maber Mawr beach. This is a lovely place to have a short break.

7.        Wheel your bikes or ride across the shingle to the far side of the bay. At the far end of the bay head LEFT inland and go through a small gate onto a boggy Bridleway. Grid Ref 882 345.  Now ride through Pen-y-allt Wood, cross over a wide field and emerge at the road by a small cottage on your right.

8.         Turn LEFT here, and follow the road until you reach a T-junction.

9.        At the T-junction turn LEFT and cycle on passing Woodlands farm on your right.

10.     Go STRAIGHT on at the crossroads and climb the steep hill until you reach the next crossroads at St Nicholas’s Cross.

11.     Go STRAIGHT on at the crossroads and ride on north easterly, passing Trefelgarn Farm on your right. Ignore the turning on your right by Ffynnon Druidon Farm. Now slowly climb ignoring the lane to your left, and the lane to your right, until you reach a staggered crossroads at Henner’s Cross.

12.     Turn RIGHT and then fork immediately LEFT keeping the Phone box on your right and head towards the little hamlet of Llanwnda.  Strumble Lighthouse

13.     At the Cemetery turn LEFT and ride into the village. Pass through the village, (which won’t take long), and follow an old green lane that heads past Pont Eglwys with wonderful views of the sea and Strumble Lighthouse to your right.

14.     At the T-junction turn LEFT and climb the hill passing Pontiago Farm until you reach the next T-junction.

15.     Turn RIGHT and cycle on. Ignore the road on your left, and when you reach Penysgwarne Farm turn RIGHT though a gate onto a Bridleway. Grid Ref 917 387. Ride on through another gate passing Garn Folch on your left. Keep straight on to Ladies Gate, take a dogleg left, and head over the moorland passing North Pole on your left. Ignore the Bridleway on your left and descend down to the Road.

16.     At the road turn LEFT and climb the steep hill up to Garn Fawr.

17.     Soon you will reach the Car Park on your RIGHT where you will FINISH the ride.
